Developing: Nearly 7 Years Later, Georgia Man Charged with Murder in Beloved Dad-of-three’s Death

A Georgia man is behind bars for murder, close to seven years after the death of his roommate.

According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, police arrested Marshall Ralph Payne, 50, in Murray County and charged him with one count of murder in connection with the death of Donald “DH” Fickey Jr., a father found shot dead after an alleged altercation with the suspect.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Fickey Jr. was found dead in October 2016 in what investigators initially called suicide by shotgun. The incident happened in Walker County shortly after Fickey texted family members, pleading for a ride after someone threatened him, according to his sister, Amanda Shirley.

Shirley, who has been fighting for her brother since his death, previously there is no way her brother took his own life.

“My brother is gone,” Shirley told CrimeOnline.

“Nothing can bring him back but I hope in getting his story out there that no other family will have to go through this pain we are forced to live with every day. My whole family is still in shock and has been traumatized by this whole situation.”

It’s unclear whether Payne has obtained an attorney. His arraignment is scheduled for June 25.

This is a developing story and will be updated as additional details become available.
