‘I needed time to myself’: Missing Chef Found Alive and Well After Family Says He’s Dead

A Louisiana man who was missing for two weeks was found alive following reports on Monday that his body was found.

Demietriek Scott, 48, a prominent New Orleans chef, was reported missing on Saturday. Days later, his family told WSDU that his body was discovered on the side of a local bridge.

WWL reported that the remains belong to someone else who the coroner’s office is in the process of identifying. Meanwhile, the news station was present when Scott turned up and reunited with his family.

“Life kicked in, life caved in. I just needed time for me to sit around and think,” Scott said, revealing that he never left New Orleans.

Concerns were raised because Scott had not spoken to anyone since May 31 and his food trailer had been unattended for days. WWL reported that he also missed a festival this weekend that he was supposed to cook at.

According to WVUE, the Orleans Parish Coroner’s office gave Scott’s family a preliminary notification regarding Monday’s discovery of a body — possibly explaining the erroneous news reports that followed.

Scott went on to thank those who were concerned for him during his mental health break.

“I’ve been around,” he said. “I essentially just needed some time for myself.”
