Live-in Caretaker Arrested for Murder of 2 Elderly Women Living at Assisted Living Facility

Two elderly California women were found dead at the assisted living facility where they lived Saturday morning, and a live-in caretaker has been charged with their deaths.

Early reports indicated the two women were shot and killed, but KABC said the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department specifically said they were not shot. They were pronounced dead on the scene in Diamond Bar.

Jianchun Li, 40, was taken into custody for the murders. According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, he was being held on a $3 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Authorities said the county coroner would determine the cause of death.

Neighbors said the home usually has six to eight elderly residents, plus live-in staff. Ivonne Trypucko, the manager of Deane Homes Swim club across the street, told KNBC that the owners had operated the home as an Airbnb in 2019, but neighbors protested.

“I guess they quickly turned it around into the home health care,” she said.

Authorities have not released the identifies of the victims.
