Texas Man May Have Been Living With Mother’s Corpse ‘At Least Months,’ Cops Say

An anthropologist is looking at skeletal remains found at a home in metropolitan Houston this week to determine how — and when — the person died.

Neighbors told KPRC that the mother and her adult son who lived at the home were extremely reclusive, although some neighbors said they thought the mother had died years ago.

“Nothing happens at that house, nobody goes, nobody comes. That’s just how it’s always been,” said neighbor Jennifer Jones.

The adult son apparently called police late Monday afternoon to report the remains at his home in Spring, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

“The male right now that resides in this home is in the hospital and he’s being medically evaluated,” said HCSO Deputy Thomas Gilliland.

Deputies are waiting until he’s cleared to speak with him about the remains. It’s too early to say if any charges will be filed, although they point out that it is illegal not to report a death.

The sheriff’s office said the body appeared to be of a woman but that they wouldn’t know for certain until forensics examinations are complete. Gilliland told KTRK that deputies had no record of calls for service to the home and that there was evidence that suggested the man had been living with the body for some time.

“At least months,” investigators told KHOU.
