Infant Found Dead at Nashville Woman’s In-Home Daycare; 6 Other Children Left Unattended

A 51-year-old Tennessee woman faces six counts of child neglect after a 3-month-old boy in her care was found dead and six other children were left unattended in her apartment.

Anne C. Jordan was arrested Thursday afternoon in Hickman County and returned to Nashville, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

The 3-month-old’s mother and another parent found all seven children — none older than 16 months — alone in Jordan’s West Nashville apartment on April 10. Police said the other six children were determined to be in good health and that Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital said the child who died had no obvious signs of traumatic injury or medical injuries.

Detectives said that Jordan was found in a nearby park with self-inflicted wounds to her arms and taken to a hospital.

Detectives are awaiting a final autopsy report with toxicology results.

According to WSMV, the six charges against Jordan relate to the six surviving children. More charges could follow when the autopsy is finalized.

A friend of the 3-month-old’s parents told WSMV it was the baby’s first day at Jordan’s home daycare and was supposed to be a temporary solution until a spot opened at a licensed daycare.

The Tennessee Department of Human Services said the boy’s mother arrived at Jordan’s apartment that afternoon and got no answer when she knocked on the door. A second parent arrived to pick up their child, and the two parents found the door to the apartment unlocked. They found the 3-month-old on Jordan’s bed, cold to the touch.

Jordan is due in court on Monday.
