Toddler Found Dead in Motel Room, 2 Arrested

Two adults have been arrested in Oklahoma after a 2-year-old child died in their care at a Tulsa motel.

Police said DeShaun Torrez-Smith and Rachel Alexander came to Tulsa from Little Rock, Arkansas, with another family members’ 2- and 3-year-old girls and planned to panhandle and prostitute, KJRH reported.

Officers said they pair were at the Home Depot in Owasso to panhandle and then went back to the motel. When they arrived, they saw that the 2-year-old was limp.

Torrez-Smith tried CPR and the couple called 911, according to KTUL. The girl was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.

An initial examination showed that the little girl had been abused.

Torrez-Smith has been charged with neglect and permitting abuse, and Alexander was charged with abuse and neglect.

The Department of Human Services took custody of the 3-year-old girl, who will be returned to Arkansas.
