Gilgo Beach Murders: Who Is Rex Heuermann?

Suffolk County Police have arrested a suspect in a series of murders stretching back into the early 2000s. The bodies were found along Ocean Parkway in Suffolk and Nassau Counties on Long Island.

Sources told media outlets the suspect is Rex Heuerman, a 59-year-old architect and consultant who lives in Massapequa Park, where he bought his parents’ home.

Heuermann told Bonjour Realty, in an interview in May 2022, that he had lived on Long Island his entire life. Neighbors told News 12 that Heuermann is married and has two children. Before it was taken down, the “Team” page of his company’s website included a young woman with the last name Heuermann, who may have been his daughter.

In the interview, Heuermann explained how he helps clients navigate complex New York City building codes.

Heuermann also told Bonjour Realty that his father was an aerospace engineer who maintained a furniture building hobby — a hobby that he inherited from his father.

Detectives swarmed Heuermann’s home Thursday night and were still on the scene Friday morning.

Suffolk County authorities have planned a news conference for 4 p.m. on Friday.
