Long Island Serial Killer Suspect’s Wife Files for Divorce: Report

The wife of suspected Long Island serial killer Rex Heuermann has filed for divorce.

Attorney Robert Macedonio told Newsdsay that he is representing 59-year-old Asa Ellerup, Heuermann’s wife, and that she filed for divorce on Wednesday in Suffolk County Supreme Court.

“I can confirm a summons and a complaint has been filed,” Macedonio told the outlet. “We have no further comment.”

Heuermann, 59, was arrested last week and charged with three of the four so-called Gilgo 4 murders — four women who were found dead on Gilgo Beach in Decemer 2010, all wrapped in burlap sacks. He was named the prime suspect in the death of the fourth.

Investigators have said that Ellerup, Heuermann’s second wife, was out of the country or out of the state when the victims were killed, as CrimeOnline reported, although they identified hairs found on or near some of the victims as belonging to her.

Little is known about her. The manager at a grocery store near the couple’s Massapequa Park home said she often appeared depressed and shopped with food stamps, an unusual occurrence in the store.

Neighbor Ettienne DeVillieres described her as “quiet.”

Suffolk County Police Commissioner described Heuermann’s family, including Ellerup, as “disgusted and embarrassed” after learning of the charges against him.

Ellerup attended her husband’s arraignment last Friday, asking a Newsday reporter to “please leave me alone I will not be saying anything.”
