Alabama Freelance Photographer Arrested for Traveling to Meet a Child for Sex

An Alabama sports photographer was caught up in an undercover operation this week and charged with traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act.

Marvin Avery Gentry, 57, was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail Friday night, AL.com reported. He was released early Saturday after posting a $60,000 bond.

Homewood Police Sgt. John Carr said the arrest came from a joint operations between Homewood police and the FBI Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. The investigation is ongoing, he said, and no further details are availabl.e

Gentry photographed prep sports and other athletics on a freelance basis for AL.com in recently years, the outlet said. He’s also worked as a freelancer for USA Today Sports, The Associated Press, and others, along with Auburn University at Montgomery.
