Cops Say There’s No Soundproof Room in Home of Accused Long Island Serial Killer

On Monday, New York police corrected reports that the suspected Long Island serial killer had a soundproof room in his home.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison told FOX that there was apparently confusion about the layout of Rex Heuermann’s Long Island home, which is still being searched.

“I believe that the soundproof room and the vault, that message got misconstrued, but there is a vault. There is no soundproof room,” he explained.

The vault is where police reportedly discovered a stockpile of weapons.

Over the weekend, a neighbor told the New York Post that police had told him there was a soundproof room, as CrimeOnline reported.

Earlier this month, police arrested Heuermann, 59, in Manhattan for the 2009 and 2010 murders of three women at Gilgo Beach on Long Island — where investigators found, in total, the bodies of nine women, a man, and a toddler. Afterward, cops reportedly were seen taking up to 300 firearms from the home.

Heuermann is charged with killing Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. Reports indicated that he is the prime suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, whose body was found in the same area on the beach. The four murder victims were reportedly wrapped in burlap and buried next to each other.

Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder. On Sunday, police executed a search warrant at a storage unit in Amityville which may be linked to his case.

The search has since expanded to South Carolina — where Heuermann’s vehicle was located and where he owns property.
