California Authorities Reopen Case of Missing 4-Year-Old After Ex-Pastor Charged With Murder of Pennsylvania Girl

California authorities are taking another look at the case of a missing 4-year-old girl after a former pastor was arrested for killing an 8-year-old girl in Pennsylvania.

David Zandstra, 83, was arrested in Georgia and charged with the murder of Gretchen Harrington in Delaware County in 1975. Zandstra was a pastor at the time and a friend of the girl’s family who officiated at her funeral, as CrimeOnline reported.

Zandstra worked in other places after he left Pennsylvania, including the Fairfield Christian Reform Church in California from 1990 through 2005, KCRA reported. Amanda Nicole Campbell, 4, was last seen in Fairfield riding her bicycle to a friend’s house in December 1991. The California Office of the Attorney General says it’s believed she was “abducted by a stranger.

KCRA said Zandstra’s Fairfield address was only a few minutes away from the Campbell’s.

Fairfield Police said they’d assigned a detective to the cold case to recheck evidence for any signs that Zandstra may have been involved.

Police in Pennsylvania said that Zandstra also worked in Texas and Georgia after leaving Pennsylvania. He was living in Marietta, Georgia, after his retirement.

Investigators said they were looking at other cases in places where he’d lived to see if he might have been involved. Zandstra, meanwhile, is being held without bond while he fights extradition to Pennsylvania.
