Alex Murdaugh Throws Bizarre Party for Dead Son Paul While Behind Bars

While behind bars, Alex Murdaugh organized a birthday party for his slain son who he was later charged with murdering, according to a new  about the troubled scion and his family.

Released today, John Glatt wrote in “Tangled Vines: Power, Privilege and the Murdaugh Family Murders” about how Alex Murdaugh celebrated his slain son’s birthday 10 months after carrying out the slayings. In doing so, a jailed Alex Murdaugh urged his surviving son, Buster, to invite people a celebration at RK Shem Creek Bar in Charleston Harbor, according to the Daily Mail.

“I think you’ll be happy to know that a bunch of those boys down in Charleston are all going tonight. It’s kind of like a commemorative thing,” Buster is reportedly heard telling his father in a jailhouse phone call from April 2022.

At the time, Alex Murdaugh was only jailed for a slew of financial crimes stemming from a failed suicide-for-hire plot and defrauding his former law firm. He was eventually charged with — and convicted of — shooting Maggie and Paul at the family’s property in Colleton County in 2021.

Glatt alleged that Alex Murdaugh was obsessed with having Buster put flowers on Maggie’s grave for Mother’s Day 2022. Alex Murdaugh is heard is jail phone calls also telling Buster to wish Maggie’s mother and sister a happy Mother’s Day, the Daily Mail reported.

“I want you to put some [flowers on Maggie’s grave] for me too. She’d like that,” Alex Murdaugh said.

Alex Murdaugh has appealed the two life sentences he received for Maggie and Paul’s murders.

Meanwhile, he still faces more than 100 counts for allegedly defrauding his former law firm and a slew of clients. He allegedly devised three different plots to acquire money and property from his clients while working as a personal injury attorney. One of those plots reportedly entailed conspiring with a local banker and attorney to steal more than $8.7 million.
