Family Distraught As Cops Identify Body Found On Trail As Missing Hiker Mom Rachel Morin

Investigators have confirmed that a body found along a Maryland hiking trail on Sunday is that of a mother of five who disappeared after heading out for a walk on that Harford County trail on Saturday.

The Hartford County Sheriff’s Office told CrimeOnline that the medical examiner had confirmed the identity as 37-year-old Rachel Morin, whose body was found just off the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air Sunday afternoon.

Morin’s sister, Rebekah Morin, launched a GoFundMe to pay for funeral expenses and help out her sibling’s children.

“This was not an accidental death, and she did not go willingly and she deserves a funeral worthy of her her beauty,” she wrote.

Sheriff Jeff Gahler said on Sunday that his office had launched a homicide investigation, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

“Investigators are confident, based on what they observed at the scene, that this was not an accident and this was not self-inflicted,” Gahler said.

Police have not announced a suspect in the death, and Gahler also said that the medical examiner would provide a definitive cause and manner of death.

After the body was found, a man who identified himself as Morin’s boyfriend reportedly posted that he loved her and “would never” hurt her.

“I love Rachel, I would never do anything to her, let the family and I grieve. Yes I have a past but I also have 15 months clean and have changed as a person. Please,” Richard Tobin, 27, wrote on Facebook, who changed his relationship status to include Morin on August 1.

According to the Baltimore Banner, Tobin ‘s criminal history includes multiple convictions for drug possession, malicious destruction of property, and resisting arrest. The Daily Voice reported that it was Tobin who reported her missing late Saturday night and told investigators where to find her car, which was found at the Williams Street entrance to the hiking trail.

Meanwhile, investigators are seeking any videos or photos taken on Ma & Pa trail on Saturday.

“If you were on the Ma & Pa Trail on Saturday, or near the trail or trail heads and took photos or video, we are asking if you would please share them with investigators. There could be something helpful in one of your photos that might bring us one one more piece of the puzzle,” the sheriff’s office said.
