Uvalde Elementary Gunman’s 17-Year-Old Cousin Threatened to ‘Do the Same Thing’ to Local School

A teen cousin of the man who killed 19 children last year at a Texas elementary school was arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot up a school.

Nathan Cruz’s mother told San Antonio police that her 17-year-old son was planning to “do the same thing” as Robb Elementary gunman Salvador Ramos, who died in last year’s mass shooting. Cruz made the initial statement to his sister, who contacted their mother, according to WOAI.

Cruz’s mother reportedly told cops that she was concerned because her son is on probation and he was intoxicated when he made the threatening comment. She also stated that they live near an elementary school and that she overheard Cruz trying to purchase an AR-15 via an illegal website, WOAI reported.

Cruz’s sister said he lodged the threats on Monday while she gave him a ride. She claimed he also threatened to shoot her in the head. Cruz also mentioned that school was starting soon, according to ABC.

Cruz was charged with making a terroristic threat against a public place and making a threat against a family member. His bond was set at $150,000.
