Texas Man Accused of Shooting Girlfriend Dead in Broad Daylight at Gas Station

A Texas man was arrested last week after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head at a gas station.

Giovanni Pera Paschal, 40, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first degree murder, KSAT reported.

The shooting took place on August 12 at about 5:30 p.m. at a Valero gas station in San Antonio, police said. An affidavit says that Paschal and Deanna Mason, 34, stopped at the station, and Paschal got out to pump gas.

Surveillance video shows Paschal return to the driver’s seat before Mason gets out of the car on the passenger side and begins to walk away. Paschal again gets out of the vehicle and follows Mason before raising his hand in her direction. She falls to the ground.

Witnesses told police that Paschal shot Mason, then got back in the vehicle, which was registered to Mason, and fled. Mason was taken to a hospital, where she died the next day from gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

According to the affidavit, Paschal and Mason lived with a third person nearby. The roommate told police that she came home that night and found blood on the floor and the home ransacked. She said she learned Mason had been killed later in the night and that she didn’t hear from Paschal until he contacted her on SnapChat on Tuesday.

He told the roommate he was going to tell his family he was sorry and that he was going to be with Mason.

The affidavit doesn’t say how police found Paschal. It says he was arrested on an unrelated charge on Wednesday and was in possession of a 9mm handgun that matched shell casings found at the scene of Mason’s shooting.

He’s being held on a $150,000 bond.
