Teens Accused of Intentionally Ramming Vegas Bicyclist Were in Midst of Crime Spree

The Las Vegas teens accused of murdering a retired police chief by intentionally ramming their vehicle into his bicycle had tried to strike another bicyclist earlier that morning and allegedly continued the crime spree hours later, KLAS-TV reports.

Prosecutors have charged 18-year-old Jesus Ayala and 16-year-old Jzamir Keys in connection with the August 14 death of 64-year-old Andreas Probst.

The teens recorded a video of them driving up behind Probst in a stolen Hyundai while he was out for his daily 6 a.m. bike ride and slamming into him before speeding off.

Probst was rushed to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

Investigators have since determined that about 30 minutes before the killing, Ayala and Keys had tried to hit another bicyclist, according to the television station.

Further, within hours of killing Probst, the teens are accused of stealing at least two more vehicles and crashing them into each other.

Ayala and Keys also allegedly burglarized a garage, where they stole multiple items, before returning to the area where they killed Probst.

The teens appeared in court on Thursday. Ayala has been charged with murder, attempted murder, battery with use of a deadly weapon, failure to stop at an accident and multiple burglary and larceny charges, according to FOX5. Keys is charged with murder, attempted murder and battery.

Probst was a former police chief of Bell, California, and had spent 35 years in law enforcement. He retired in 2009 and was working remotely for a global security company, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
