Charlotte Sena: Suspected Kidnapper Ordered Held Without Bond

The suspect in the weekend kidnapping of a 9-year-old upstate New York girl was arraigned early Tuesday in Saratoga County.

Craig N. Ross, 46, was ordered held without bail on a first degree kidnapping charge for the abduction of Charlotte Sena, snatched off her bicycle in Moreau Lake State Park Saturday night, the Times Union reported.

Investigators said Ross left a ransom note at the home of Sena’s parents in Porter Corners, about 12 miles from the park, before dawn on Monday. At about 2:30 p.m., investigators matched a fingerprint on the note to fingerprints taken when Ross was arrested in Saratoga Springs for driving while intoxicated.

Four hours later, police found the 4th grader in a cupboard in Ross’s camper on a property in Milton, about 13 miles from the Senas home, CrimeOnline reported.

Investigators searched a trailer on the property where Ross’s mother lives before finding the girl in the camper, the Times Union said.

State police said Ross suffered miner injuries scuffling with law enforcement during the arrest. Sena was taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center Hospital and was said to be in “good health.”

Sena disappeared Saturday evening while on a bike ride on one of the 6,250-acre park’s loop roads. The girl had made two loops with friends and then asked to do a last ride around by herself at about 6:15. When she didn’t return, her parents and friends in the camp site began searching for her and found her abandoned bicycle at about 6:45 p.m.

Police were called and the search, which ultimately number more than 400 searchers, began. State police issued a missing person alert at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and 12 hours later activated an Amber Alert, saying it was likely the girl had been abducted.

Police have said they’ve found no indication Ross had any connection with the Sena family. They said that a news conference later Tuesday will provide more information.
