Oklahoma Man Wanted for Wife’s 2017 Murder Captured in Mexico

An Oklahoma man on the run since his wife’s 2017 murder was arrested earlier this summer in Mexico.

Tulsa police said Wednesday that Jose Gomez-Baca, 31, was arrested on June 27 in Tecomán, Colima, and has now been extradited to the United States to face a first degree murder charge in the death of his estranged wife Elizabeth Rodriguez on June 22, 2017.

Rodriguez, 26, was shot and killed while sitting in a car outside her home at about 1:30 a.m., the Tulsa World said. Gomez-Baca was quickly identified as the suspect and charged with murder, but he fled before he could be taken into custody.

Detectives said at the time they believed Gomez-Baca “surprised his wife as she arrived in a car with her family,” noting that he had previously reported her missing.

The victim’s brother told the Tulsa World that Rodriguez and been seeking a legal separation.

Gomez-Baca is being held at the Tulsa County Jail without bond, police said.
