Blood Seeping From Walls Leads to Discovery of Body in Chimney

An investigation is underway in Nebraska after a body was discovered in a chimney on Thursday.

Police said they were called about a body found in a chimney at an apartment building in Norfolk. Sources told the Norfolk Daily News that the chimney runs through the middle of the building, and the landlord checked it after tenants complained of a foul odor.

The source claimed that they and the landlord originally believed blood dripping down the walls was from an animal that got trapped and died. However, the human remains were reportedly discovered after the landlord asked maintenance to knock down a wall.

The source also told the Norfolk Daily News that the only way to access the chimney from outside is to use a ladder to get on top of a local bar. From there, the person on the roof of the bar would have to use a ladder again to get on the apartment building’s roof. The source explained that the apartment roof to the chimney was another seven feet.

Though it is possible to access the apartment’s roof from inside, two people would likely need to do it due to the various sealed doors that would need to be opened before making it to the attic, according to the source.

Authorities are investigating the death as an accidental even though the case remains open. Officials have not publicly named the decedent.
