Maryland Judge Fatally Shot Outside His Home

A Maryland judge was fatally shot in the driveway of his Hagerstown home Thursday night.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, which responded calls at about 8 p.m., identified the victim as Circuit Court Judge Andrew Wilkinson, 52. He was taken to Meritus Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

WRC reported that Maryland State troopers were dispatched to guard the homes of other judges, although investigators have not indicated they have information of a possible threat.

The sheriff’s office said it planned a news conference for later on Friday.

Wilkinson took his office in 2020. He graduated the University of North Carolina in 1994 and the Emory University School of Law in Atlanta in 1997, after which he served as a Washington County circuit court law clerk and an assistant county attorney, WJLA reported.
