An investigation is underway in California after a body was discovered on Tuesday in a suitcase.
A volunteer told KTVU that he was cleaning Lake Merritt when he spotted the suitcase, which he described as heavy. The cleanup crew reportedly pulled the suitcase in and opened it up and discovered an adult man apparently wrapped in a sheet.
“We pulled it towards us closer using these net poles and we grabbed one end and then realized it was too heavy…We unzipped it and that’s what we found,” the cleanup volunteer told KTVU.
According to KNTV, homicide detectives are investigating how the man died and how he ended up in the lake.
The news outlet reported that officials have not identified the decedent pending notification of his next of kin.
