An Indiana apartment complex maintenance man has been charged with the murder of a 15-year-old girl whose body was found in woods behind the apartment building earlier this week.

The owner of  apartment, the Gene B. Glick Company, confirmed that Tevis Walker, 34, worked at the Carriage House East apartments, the same complex where Janiya Carr lived with her mother, Demetria Boston, WTHR reported.

Boston had reported her daughter as a runaway on October 28.

Police said they uncovered surveillance video showing CArr getting into the passenger seat of Walker’s car. About an hour later, a probable cause affidavit says, Walker was seen driving his car into the grass near where Carr’s body was found, shot to death, on Wednesday by a dog walker.

Investigators said Walker had warrants in Alabama and Georgia.

“How is it that they allowed this man to work here knowing that he has a warrant out of Alabama,” said Boston. “How can you allow that? I feel tortured.”

The apartment owners said they were “shocked and deeply saddened” by Carr’s death. They said they have been cooperating with the investigation but declined to provide further information.

“They failed us. That company failed us,” said Boston.

Neighbor’s said Walker had been on the job for about a month.

He’s being held without bond and is due in court on Monday.
