Five children were shot, one fatally, on a Cincinnati street Friday night but an unknown gunman who just opened fire “into a crowd of kids.”

An 11-year-old boy was pronounced dead on the scene, as CrimeOnline previously reported. At Sunday’s news conference, Police Chief Teresa Theetge said that a 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl, and a 53-year-old woman were wounded in the shooting, WCPO reported. She said that someone in a dark sedan shot into the crowd, firing 22 rounds “in quick succession.”

Theetge did not release any other suspect information, but she said, without providing a reason, that investigators don’t believe there’s a danger to the public.

“Twenty-two rounds in a moment into a crowd of kids. No time to respond, no time to react,” Mayor Aftab Pureval repeated. according to WLWT. “That is the reality that these kids have to live through and the reality and the trauma that they will have to deal with for the rest of their lives.”

The 11-year-old’s family attended the news conference with city officials, WCPO said.

“When will this stop? Will this ever stop?” asked Isaac Davis, the boy’s father. “How many people need to bury their kids?”

Theetge said three of the children shot were students at Cincinnati Public Schools, while the other two — including the 11-year-old boy — attended Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy.

“Our entire city is grieving,” City Manager Cheryl Long said Sunday. “This is not an act of god, this is not a natural disaster. The devastation, the harm and the loss of life are a shock to us all, but they stem from actions of real people.”
