Victim, Suspect Dead After Shooting at New Hampshire State Psychiatric Hospital

One preson was fatally shot Friday afternoon at a New Hampshire state psychiatric hospital before a state trooper on duty at the facility shot and killed the shooter.

Officials said CPR was performed on the victim, who was then rushed to a hospital but died from their injuries.

Investigators have not released the name of the victim pending notifications. State Police Col Mark Hall said investigators are working to uncover the identity of the shooter.

Earlier, police said there were “multiple” victims but Hall said at the news conference Friday night that only the suspect and the victim were shot.

Police were also investigating a “suspicious vehicle” that was found on the campus of the state hospital.

The shooting was confined to the front lobby of the hospital, as CrimeOnline previously reported.

Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Lori Weaver said that none of the staff or patients at the hospital were injured and that officials were setting up a call center for loved ones seeking information. Support services are also being made available.

The 184-bed hospital is on a 120-acre campus that also houses the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education, the Public Utility Commission, and other state offices.

Officials said they would provided more information as it becomes available.
