New York Mayor Eric Adams Sued for Sexual Assault

A woman has accused New York Mayor Eric Adams of sexually assaulting her in 1993, when he worked as a police captain with the New York Police Department.

The woman also worked for the city at the time, WABC reports, although it’s not clear in what capacity.

Adams was named in a summons filed late Wednesday, ahead of the sunsetting of the Adult Survivors Act, which extended the statute of limitations for sex abuse survivors to file suit.

“Plaintiff was sexually assaulted by Defendant Eric Adams in New York, New York in 1993 while they both worked for the City of New York,” the summons said. “The claims brought here allege intentional and negligent acts and omissions for physical, psychological, and other injuries suffered as a result of conduct that would constitute sexual offenses.”

The summons is precursor to an actual lawsuit, which would provide details of the alleged assault.

A spokesperson for Adams said that the mayor doesn’t know the accusor.

“If they ever met, he doesn’t recall it. But he would never do anything to physically harm another person and vigorously denies any such claim,” the spokesperson said.

Multiple lawsuits have been filed against celebrities in recent days as the Adult Survivor’ Act’s midnight Friday expiry approaches:

  • A former Penthouse model sued Guns N’Roses singer Axl Rose on Wednesday, claiming he raped her in 1989.
  • Two women filed lawsuits on Wednesday accusing actor Cuba Gooding Jr of raping them in 2018 and 2019.
  • A woman accused actor Jamie Foxx of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit filed on Monday.
  • A new lawsuit has been filed against comedian Bill Cosby by a previous accusor.
  • Casandra “Cassie” Ventura filed suit against Sean “Diddy” Combs late last week, accusing him of rape and sex trafficking. The two settled the lawsuit “amicably” the next day.

Adams’ accuser is seeking $5 million in damages, the New York Daily News said. Adams is currently under investigation by federal authorities for possible corruption, The New York Times reported.
