Husband Guns Down Wife, Childhood Friend, Drives 170 Miles to Kill Himself

The suspect in a Friday afternoon double murder in West Virginia killed himself Saturday morning as police closed in on him at an Ohio hotel.

The Vienna, West Virginia, Police Department said family members found 45-year-old Thomas J. Platt of Parkersburg and 43-year-old Christy L. Roseberry of Vienna dead from apparent gunshot wounds at a home in Vienna.

Investigators identified 46-year-old Stevie W. Roseberry of Belpre, Ohio, as the suspect in the shooting and put out notices to nearby agencies to be on the lookout for him.

After securing an arrest warrant for Stevie Roseberry, US Marshals helped locate him at a Comfort Inn in Bellefontaine, Ohio, about 170 miles northwest of Vienna.

US Marshals and Bellefontaine authorities arrived at the hotel shortly after midnight Saturday to serve the arrest warrant and attempted to contact Roseberry. Instead of reaching the suspect, however, they heard what sounded like a single gunshot and found him dead when they made entry into the hotel room.

No further information was released, but family members said on Facebook that the Roseberrys were married, that Christy Roseberry was seeking a divorce, and that Platt was a childhood friend.
