Dallas Family’s Killer Commits Suicide Rather Than Let Cops Take Him Into Custody

A man suspected of killing three adults and a toddler on Saturday apparently killed himself during a police chase later in the day.

A 15-year-old girl was wounded in the shooting in Dallas and later released from the hospital, and a 13-year-old girl inside the home at the time was not physically injured.

Dallas Police identified 21-year-old Byron Carillo as the suspect in the shooting and said he was wearing an ankle monitor from a 2021 aggravated assault charge. Carillo apparently cut the monitor off either just before or just after the shooting.

Carillo reportedly stole a vehicle after leaving the scene. Texas Highway Patrol located the stolen vehicle in the Austin area and engaged in a pursuit beffore the vehicle crashed into a ditch. Carillo got out and ran from the officers, and when they drew near him, he shot himself in the head and died at the scene.

The three adults who were shot —  Jose Lopez, 50; Karina Lopez, 33; and Vanessa DeLaCruz, 20 — were pronounced dead at the scene, as CrimeOnline reported. The 15-year-old and the 1-year-old boy were taken to a hospital, where the toddler died from his wounds. He was identified as Logan DeLaCruz.

According to WFAA, Karina and Jose Lopez were the parents of Vanessa DeLaCruz, and Logan was her son. Family members said that DeLaCruz and Carillo had been living together next door to her parents, but that she moved out and back in with her parents because he was known to be violent toward her.
