Infant Boy’s Decomposing Body Found in Bag at Waterfront Park

Massachusetts prosecutors said on Tuesday that an infant boy found dead at a park earlier this month died a week before his body was discovered.

WCVB reported that a woman walking a path near the water at Fort Taber Park found the baby’s body after smelling decomposition and spotting a blanket close to a group of bushes. The woman unwrapped the blanket — which revealed a plastic bag containing the baby’s body, according to police.

The baby’s identity is unknown but DNA testing determined he was a boy who likely died one to four weeks before he was discovered on December 9. The cause and manner of death is pending the final autopsy results.

WTBS reported that investigators are reviewing weeks of surveillance footage from the surrounding area.

Anyone with information about this case should call New Bedford police at 508-991-6300 or Massachusetts State Police detectives at 508-961-1901.
