A Georgia mother and son were found dead in a burning car Tuesday night in what police say is a murder-suicide.

Tyrone Police said they were called just before 9 p.m. by a woman who said that the father of her infant child had killed his mother on Monday and held her and the baby hostage overnight. She said the man, identified as Khalid Auta, 32, had just released them and took off in a vehicle with his dead mother inside.

Investigators found Auta’s vehicle on fire in Fayetteville a short time later. Auta was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and the body of his mother, 59-year-old Sonya Reid, was also inside the car.

Police have not released any further information except to say they processed Reid’s home “for anything of evidentiary value.”
