Lindsay Shiver, Charged in Plot to Kill Her Husband in the Bahamas, Can Come Back to US Until Trial

An one-time county beauty queen accused of plotting to kill her ex-football player husband in the Bahamas has been granted permission to to stay with her south Alabama family until her trial starts early next year.

Lindsay Shiver, 36, has been out of jail on a $100,000 bond since August but has not been allowed to leave the Bahamas and is wearing a GPS ankle monitor, as CrimeOnline has reported.

Shiver is accused of plotting with a Bahamian lover to kill her husband, former Auburn University football player Robert Shiver, 38. The couple lived in Georgia and shared a home in the Bahamas, where the plot took place. Robert Shiver is back in Georgia with the couple’s three children.

The judge overseeing her case agreed to her attorney’s request that she be allowed to visit her family in Alabama, provided she continues to wear the ankle monitor, NewsNation reported. She can stay with her family until her trial begins in the Bahamas next March.

Attorneys put in the request last week, and the prosecution did not oppose the motion, but the judge declined to make a ruling until after a hearing on Friday.

Robert Shiver, the defendant’s husband, appeared at the hearing via video link and told the judge he opposed his wife coming back to the United States, Court TV said.

“After reviewing the indictment, this was a situation close to happening,” said Shiver. “… I’m concerned for the safety of myself.”

The judge said Shiver must stay with her parents at their home in Alabama and cannot come to Georgia except for hearings related to the divorce  or custody of the children. She is not allowed near her husband or his home at any time.

Robert Shiver filed for divorce on April 5, shortly after his wife’s arrest, and she filed the next day. Both are seeking primary custody of their three sons and their $2 million, 7,000-square-feet-plus home in Thomasville, Georgia, AL.com reported.

Lindsay Shiver’s boyfriend, 28-year-old Terrance Bethel, and his friend, 29-year-old Faron Newbold, were also charged in the plot to kill Robert Shiver. They were released on bond earlier this year.

According to police, the alleged plot was exposed after a break-in at a bar where Bethel worked. While investigating the incident, police seized Bethel’s phone and saw messages to and from Bethel that implicated him, Shiver, and Newbold in the murder plot.
