‘Justice for Derek’: Supporters Gather for 13-Year-Old Who Stabbed Mom 46 Times

About a dozen mothers and grandmothers came to court Thursday to support a 13-year-old Florida boy accused of killing his mother in October.

The supporters came on behalf of murder suspect Derek Rosa and sat in the galley in shirts reading “Justice for Derek,” “We Are All Derek,” and “He Is Not an Adult, He Is a Boy,” WTVJ reported.

It was also during Thursday’s hearing when a judge ordered prosecutors to immediately turn over unredacted 911 calls that Rosa reportedly made the day he stabbed Irina Garcia, 39, more than 40 times as she slept near her newborn daughter.

Rosa’s confession was played in court — which entailed him telling investigators how he woke up, got a kitchen knife, and repeatedly stabbed his mother. After the hearing, prosecutors released the video of the confession.

Rosa was charged as an adult with first-degree murder. After killing his mother, Rosa allegedly sent a friend two photos of his mother and a selfie which apparently showed blood on his hands.

The teen allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that he sent pictures of his dead mother to someone he met online. He went on to tell the dispatcher that there was blood all over the floor.

“I took pictures and I told my friend about it,” he allegedly said in the 911 call. “Was that bad?”

A motive in Garcia’s murder remains undisclosed. WTVJ reported that Rosa’s trial is tentatively scheduled to begin on February 26.
