Public School Music Teacher Sexually Abused 5 Children Whom He Taught

A former music teacher in Michigan was charged last week with sexually abusing five children whom he taught.

Lamar Willis, 41, allegedly carried out the abuse at University High School Academy in Southfield between 2022 and March 2023. WJBK reported that one of the victims was younger than 13.

According to The Detroit News, Southfield School Superintendent Jennifer Green said in a letter to parents that it suspended Willis in March to investigate the allegations against him. Willis resigned in June and has not had contact with any students or staff, Green said.

Following his resignation, Willis reportedly worked for the Detroit Public Schools Community District. The school district told WJBK that it placed Willis on administrative leave on December 15, three days before he was arraigned on criminal charges.

Willis was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct and children accosting for immoral purposes. His bond was set at $15,000.
