Parents Charged With Homicide, Repeated Child Abuse in Infant’s Death

The parents of an infant who died last week at a hospital in Wisconsin have been been arrested and charged with the child’s death.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department said that Maria Guadulupe Atlahua-Aguas, 23, and Azariel Aguilar-Gonzalez, 24, have been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and repeated acts of physical abuse causing great bodily harm, The Telegraph-Herald reported.

Authorities were notified of a possible child abuse case on December 23, and on December 27, they learned the baby had died at a hospital in Madison.

Atlahua-Aguas and Aguilar-Gonzalez were both arrested in Madison and appeared in a Lafayette County court on Wednesday, where they were each given $1 million bonds.

The were still in custody Thursday afternoon, the newspaper said.
