Maryland Man Guns Down Estranged Wife Outside Grocery Store Where She Worked

A Maryland man has been arrested after he shot and killed his estranged wife outside the Frederick County grocery store where she worked.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said there was “a history of protective orders and stalking by” the suspect, 33-year-old Frederick Owusu Sakyi,  who was arrested without incident.

The sheriff’s office declined to identify Sakyi’s victim except to say she worked at the Giant Food store, but WRC said she was Tenisha Butler, 33.

The shopping center, a busy one with multiple restaurants and businesses, was closed overnight but reopened Sunday morning, the sheriff’s office said.

The shooting took place just after the store closed at 11 p.m., the food store said in a statement, according to WRC.

“We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation, and the safety and well-being of our customers and associates continue to be our top priorities,” the statement said.

The sheriff’s office said it found a handgun in the front seat of Sakyi’s car and an assault-style rifle in the back seat. Investigators also said that Sakyi and Butler were estranged and divorcing.

The office did not say what charges Sakyi is facing.
