Ex-Boyfriend Poses as Delivery Man, Guns Down Girlfriend’s Current Beau on His Birthday

A Georgia man, disguised as a delivery man, lured his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend out of his apartment last week and executed him.

Donovan Carter, 33, was charged with aggravated assault, murder, malice murder, and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime in the death of Kenneth Cunningham, 40, on January 3, according to the Marietta Police Department.

He was arrested late that night during a traffic stop after multiple law enforcement agencies worked together to identify and locate him.

Marietta Police spokesperson Officer Chuck McPhilamy told WXIA that Carter drove more than an hour from his home in Gwinnett County to reach Cunningham’s Cobb County home.

“This was a preplanned, premeditated event that took place,” McPhilamy said.

McPhilamy said that the day of the murder was the victim’s 40th birthday.

“He was expecting a package. He was being lured out of his own apartment under the guise of there is a package waiting for you,” McPhilamy said. “And it was only then that the suspect confronted him and brutally shot him.”

McPhilamy also explained that Cunningham was dating Carter’s former girlfriend.
