Singer Sinead O’Connor Died of Natural Causes, Coroner Says

Singer Sinead O’Connor — who died last year in England — died as a result of natural causes, officials announced on Tuesday.

The Southwark Coroner’s Court confirmed O’Connor’s cause of death in a statement issued to the BBC. O’Connor, 56, died in her London home in July — 18 months after her 17-year-old son reportedly took his own life.

Reports indicated that O’Connor was hospitalized following her teen son’s suicide in January 2022. At the time of O’Connor’s death, police said they were not treating the case as suspicious.

O’Connor, who was Irish, had been living in London for a few weeks before she died. She was privately buried in August, following a public memorial service in Ireland, according to The Irish Times.

The Southwark Coroner’s Court said it is no longer involved in O’Connor’s case as her death was natural. Additional details regarding how she died were not provided.
