Vermont Teen Charged With Running Down Man Who Threw Snowball at His Car

A Vermont teenager pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to an attempted murder charge after prosecutors said he purposefully struck a man with his car.

Surveillance video shows 18-year-old Hamza Velic striking Oliver Reed with the car, causing Reed to flip over Velic’s car as his pants flew off, WCAX reported. Police said that Velic the doubled back and hit him again.

Reed escaped a third pass by Velic and was treated for bruises and scrapes and released from a hospital.

Police said Velic went after Reed because Reed threw a snowball at his car.

Judge Michael Harris ordered Velic held without bail after saying the vehicular attack was “alarming and erratic.”

“This was intent,” Harris said. “He can’t say he just went too fast around the speed and struck someone. He was preying and trying to strike this person down.”

Harris said the court would meet on Wednesday to consider releasing Velic to his father pending trial.

Burlington police said Velic was recently charged with being in possession of a stolen Lamborghini.
