Iowa Man Jailed After Toddler Dies From Injuries Sustained While in His Care

An Iowa man has been arrested and charged with child endangerment leading to the death of a toddler.

Journey Marberry, 2, was critically injured inside a home in Centerville on January 19, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. She was taken to MercyOne Hospital in Centerville and from there lifeflighted to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

The little girl died on Saturday.

Roger Gillespie, 48, was arrested shortly after noon on Saturday by the Iowa State Patrol. He’s been chared with child endangerment causing death and is being held in the Appanoose County Jail.

Investigators say Gillespie was the little girl’s caretaker at the time she suffered the injuries.
