Convicted Sex Offender Walks Out Unlocked Jail Door, Recaptured a Day Later

A convicted sex offender escaped his Tennessee county jail on Friday but was back in jail a day later.

Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris told WZTV that a door was left unlocked, allowing Jack Janes, 42, to walk out of the jail unhindered.

“Anytime an inmate escapes, we obviously have made a mistake in order for that to happen of which is unacceptable and is currently being addressed,” Farris said.

Farris said two people have been arrested and charged with helping him during his brief sojourn out from behind bars and that more arrests are possible.

Now Janes faces an escape charge, which could add another six years to his jail time. Farris didn’t say how much time Janes is already servings.
