67-Year-Old Florida Woman Missing, Brother Found Dead at Motel From Self-Inflicted Gunshot

Florida police are investigating the “suspicious disappearance” of a 67-year-old woman whose brother was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a motel in Brooksville.

Bradenton Police found Scott Stirm, 64, dead at a Days Inn while they were searching for his sister, Catherine Stirm. Stirm’s co-workers had requested a welfare check on Monday after she didn’t come to work for several days, WWSB reported.

The co-workers said they had spoken with her on January 22 but had not heard from her since.

Investigators found her vehicle on Tuesday at the Sawgrass Cove apartment complex, where Scott Stirm lives. Officers were not able to make contact with him, so they executed a search warrant at the apartment on Thursday.

What they found made them “gravely concerned for Catherine’s welfare,” according to WFLA.

Scott Stirm’s car was found later that night at the Days Inn, where he was found dead in a room. His sister was not at the motel.
