A 34-year-old Georgia woman has been charged with murder in the death of her 8-year-old stepdaughter.

Natiela Barros has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, and first degree cruelty to children in the death of Sayra Barros on Tuesday, Gwinnett County Police said.

The girl’s father, Cledir Barros, was charged with second degree murder and second degree cruelty to children, WAGA reported.

Natiela Barros was denied bond during a Wednesday arraignment, the outlet said. According to her arrest warrant, she hit the girl in anger “with a wooden rolling pin 10 to 20 times, refusing to get her medical care afterwards.”

The judge rejected bond, telling Barros she was “a danger to somebody.”

Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Ryan Winderweedle told WAGA that Natiela Barros didn’t call 911 after the beating. Instead, she called her husband.

“The father had called 911 when he arrived home and attempted to give CPR to the child,” he said.

Cledir Barros was also denied bond when he appeared before a judge on Thursday.

“I can’t even put into words, you know, something that came upon her, she just lost control went above and beyond. I don’t know,” he told WSB before his arrest.

According to his arrest warrant, he is accused of allowing his wife to watch the girl unsupervised even though he knew she was abusive toward her.
