A Florida woman has been charged with first degree murder after the death of an “obviously neglected” 14-year-old boy on New Year’s Day.

Daytona Beach Police said they arrested Talia Nelson, 43, on Friday. She was also charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse, WESH reported.

Police did not describe the relationship between the boy and Nelson.

Police said the boy was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center on January 1 and was pronounced dead. A medical examiner determined the death to be a homicide.
