According to People, Bobbie Jean Carter’s mother disclosed she had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. In addition to fentanyl and meth, the medical examiner also determined she had taken propranolol, an anti-anxiety and blood pressure medication; omeprazole, which treats acid reflux, indigestion, and heartburn; clindamycin, an antibiotic; and quetiapine, which treats schizophrenia and other mental health conditions.

Bobbie Jean Carter’s death came a little more than a year after her brother Aaron Carter, 34, was found drowned in a bathtub in his California home. An autopsy concluded that Aaron Carter lost consciousness in the bathtub and drowned due to prescription pill use and huffing.

The circumstances surrounding Bobbie Jean and Aaron Carter’s deaths are also similar to the 2012 death of their sister, Leslie Carter, 25, who died after being found unresponsive in a shower. Her death was also deemed an overdose.
