2 Teens Charged in Connection With Deadly Shooting at Kansas City Chiefs’ Celebration

The two teens detained after a deadly shooting following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory celebration have been charged with “gun-related and resisting arrest charges.”

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said Thursday that the shooting, which killed one person and left 22 other people with gunshot wounds — half of them children — began as a dispute between several people at the parade and rally, as CrimeOnline previously reported. Three people were initially detained, but the third was released when investigators determined he had no connection with the shooting.

The two teens have been charged as juveniles, the Jackson County Family Court Division announced Friday, according to KMBC. A spokesperson for the division said that more charges are likely as police continue their investigation. Police say they are looking for more suspects.

Because they’ve been charged as juveniles, no further information will be released, the spokesperson said. That could change if they’re charged as adults with murder.

Gunfire rang out as the victory rally at Union Station was ending Wednesday afternoon, sending a sea of red-clad fans scattering. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, host of KKFI radio’s “Taste of Tejano,” was killed in the shooting. Lopez-Galvan, the mother of two adult children, was at the rally with other family members, some of whom were among the wounded.

Officials said the victims ranged in age from 8 to 47. The Associated Press reported that by Friday, two people remained in critical condition and one was in serious condition. Most of the children had been released from the hospital, and all were expected to recover.
