Drunk Driver Ran Over Ex-girlfriend as She Held Their 1-year-old Child: Police

A Kentucky man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly running over his ex-girlfriend as she held their 1-year-old child.

WKYT reported that James Tripplett, 28, ran over the victim’s left leg at the Bluegrass Extended Stay in Lexington. Police said that Tripplett then drove toward the victim’s mother, also striking her.

Tripplett allegedly left before police arrived, but he returned while officers were still at the scene. Police noted that his breath reeked of alcohol and there was an open liquor bottle in the front seat of his car, according to WLEX.

The victim told officers that Tripplett struck her face and strangled her before running over her and her mother. Meanwhile, Tripplett allegedly confessed to taking two shots of alcohol during Saturday’s incident.

WLEX reported that Tripplett is facing a slew of charges, including second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault, resisting arrest, first-degree strangulation, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.

Records indicated that he remains jailed on a $50,000 bond.
