Washington State Woman Charged With Killing Newborn Found in Phoenix Airport Restroom

Phoenix police say they have arrested a 51-year-old woman in the case of a newborn baby girl left in a restroom at Sky Harbor International Airport 18 years ago.

Annie Anderson admitted she was the baby’s mother to investigators who questioned her in Washington state, where she now lives, KNXV reported.

The baby, dubbed “Baby Skylar,” was found wrapped in a hotel bag at the airport on October 10, 2005. The FBI eventually joined the investigation.

“In November of 2021, the FBI and Phoenix Police cold case detectives reviewed existing evidence and utilized Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) to help identify a potential maternal match for the newborn victim,” Phoenix Police said in a statement. “Investigators cross-referenced the potential match with evidence originally collected at the scene and identified the probable mother of Baby Skylar.”

A grand jury in Maricopa County indicted Anderson for the baby’s murder. She is awaiting extradition to Phoenix to stand trial.
