Itzel Camarena: Pregnant Woman Found Dead in Alley, Shot in the Face

A pregnant woman who was found fatally shot in Illinois on Sunday has been identified.

Chicago police said Itzel Camarena, 24, was found between two trash cans in an alley in the city’s Chatham neighborhood. Camarena, who had a wound on her neck, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WLS.

The news outlet also reported that Camarena was six months pregnant. The Cook County Medical Examiner has since confirmed that she died from a gunshot wound to the face.

Camarena’s mother told Univision that she last saw her daughter in January but they frequently talked on the phone and FaceTime. The slain woman’s aunt claimed she was found facedown and wrapped in a white sheet. Camarena’s underwear was also pulled down and it appeared she had been hit or strangled, according to the aunt.

Univision reported that Camarena’s belongings were found in an apartment near where she was found dead on Sunday.

It is unclear whether any suspects have been identified in Camarena’s slaying. An investigation is ongoing.
