Investigators Search Local Landfill for Missing Wisconsin Toddler

Police have shut down the entrance to a landfill in Calumet County, Wisconsin, as they search for a 3-year-old boy who was reported missing on Tuesday.

Elijah Vue was last seen at about 8 a.m. on Tuesday, as CrimeOnline previously reported. An Amber Alert was issued, but no information about a possible abduction was provided.

Vue’s mother, Katrina Baur, and Jesse Vang, who reportedly lives where the toddler was last seen, have been jailed for child neglect and are expected to appear in court on Friday for a bail hearing, WLUK reported.

The Two Rivers Police Department, which is leading the search and investigation, said in a statement on Thursday that it was parsing what information it provides to avoid “jeopardizing this ongoing and multifaceted investigation.” The department acknowledged searches were taking place in such locations as rivers and landfills, saying, “We will leave no stone unturned.”

Investigators asked residents to check property anywhere a small child could “hide, climb, or fall” and look for items that don’t belong, like Elijah’s blanket or dinosaur-printed shoes. They also asked residents to check surveillance cameras.
