Child’s Body Found in Duffle Bag Empty West Philadelphia Lot

City workers in Philadelphia found a small child dead inside a duffle bag while cleaning a lot Monday morning.

Philadelphia Police Inspector Kpana Massaquoi told WPVI the child appeared to be between the ages of 2 and 4.

The discovery was made shortly before 10 a.m. in the city’s Mantua neighborhood. A woman said she spoke with the worker who found the body just after it happened.

“He was crying, he was right in front of my car. He thought it was like a dead animal, and he dropped it because it was heavy, and when he dropped it, he said feet came out and he saw sneakers,” said Ariel Williams.

Investigators have not yet determined any information about the child, including how or when the death took place. The body was in a severe state of decomposition, they said. They are checking with missing persons cases or other investigations in the area.
