Baby Hospitalized in Critical Condition After Ingesting Cocaine

An upstate New York man was arrested on multiple charges late last week after a 10-month-old baby ingested cocaine at his home.

Lucas Smith, 24, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, assault, reckless endangerment and drug and firearms possession.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was called in when the baby was hospitalized and doctors determined they had ingested cocaine, WTEN reported. Investigators quickly learned that the cocaine came from Smith’s home.

The baby was initially taken to Glens Falls Hospital and then transferred to Albany Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition.

Smith is awaiting arraignment at the Washington County Jail.
